What to do Old Downtown
>> visit the top of Copan building
a landmark of the city, Copan building gets our attention for being the biggest residential building of Latin America, and has a wave shape. To visit the top for free, get to the gate F, only on weekdays at 10h30am or at 3h30pm (try to get earlier there).
>> LGBTQI+ Museum
located inside República subway station, it's a small museum about the LGBTQI+ community and culture, with temporary and thematic exibitions. It's located inside the closest station from Arouche Square (the original gay neighborhood of the city), located on the opposite side of Repúlblica square.
>> Roosvelt square and Consolação church
very close to República Square, following Ipiranga Ave, you find Consolação church - very beautiful inside (our guide will talk about it, but we don´t go inside during the tour). And behind the church there is Roosvelt square very popular betwen young kids and skateboarders, there is also a very nice cafe and great murals of urban art around.
>> go to the Municipal Market
just less than 10minutes walking from our Ending Point, the Municipal Market is really nice to visit, with many options of food, mainly the Mortadela sandwich and the Pastel of Codfish. The colorful tropical fruits in the stands also get our attention. It closes at 6pm, but it's better to leave the market before 5h30pm (on Sundays closes at 4pm).
>> visit the Cultural Center Farol Santander
located where was the famous Banespa building, Farol Santander is a private cultural center with temporary exibitions, a permanent exibition about the history of the bank Banespa and Santander, and a very nic panoramic cafe on the 26o floor. We recommend going there to watch the sunset (about 5h30pm). It's opened from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9am to 8pm. Click here to book.
>> eat the Bauru sandwich and visit
the Rock'n Roll Gallery
the most tipic and oldest sandwich of the city is called Bauru, and the original place is still working Old Downtown - called PontoChic (such an experience going there). And besides you can see the famous local spot Rock'n Roll Gallery (a shopping mall with many music, skaeboard, tattoo and piercing products).
>> Pinacoteca and Portuguese Language Museums
. Pinacoteca is the first and one of the greatest museum of the city, since 1906, located in front of Luz train station, and just 15 minutes walking from our Ending Point. Permanent and temporary art exibitions and a nice cafe. It's is opened until 6pm, but the tickets can be bought until 5h30pm (free on Saturdays, and closed on Tuesdays). Click here to book.
. the Portuguese Language Museum was reopened in 2021 after a big fire, and we can find a permanent exhibition about the official language of Brazil. It is located in the Luz Train Station building (built in 1901 in Victorian style), and can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 am to 5 pm. Click here to book.
>> visit the top of the City Hall (Matarazzo's palace)
from Monday to Saturday, it's possible to visit inside the City Hall, including the top with Walter Galera garden. For free, at 2h30pm or at 4h30pm, but it's recommended to be there 60min. before (maximum group of 10 people).
