What to do in Ibirapuera Park
>> visit the AfroBrasil museum
Inaugurated in 2004, the museum is dedicated to the history, culture and art of the black people in Brazil, with a vast collection on the theme, including a deep approach to the period of slavery in Brazil. An excellent museum that is well worth a visit. It is located inside the park, next to gate 10. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 5pm, costs R$ 15 (freeon Saturdays).
>> visit MAM
the Museum of Modern Art is also located inside the park, in the middle of the Marquise, next to the Bienal building and next to the Oca (next to gate 1). The museum was founded in 1949, and has been located in the current space since 1969. It has an important collection of modern Brazilian art, in addition to the beautiful Jardim das Esculturas in the front. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm, costs R $ 20 (free on Sundays).
>> visit Temporary Art Exibitions
inside Ibirapuera Park there are two buildings for temporary art exhibitions: the Oca and the Bienal.
- OCA: designed by Oscar Niemeyer, it is a white building, shaped like a bowl facing downwards, and offers temporary exhibitions (always from Tuesday to Sunday).
- BIENAL: huge building (750m long), rectangular in shape with four floors - also designed by Oscar Niemeyer - destined to an International Art Exhibition every two years (odd years) called Bienal. Meanwhile, it can be used for temporary cultural events.
>> Brazilian Cinematheque (outside the park)
Located close to the park and also close to our Meeting Point, Cinemateca Brasileira is responsible for the largest audiovisual collection in Latin America. It has two movie theaters with exhibitions, in addition to being able to visit public spaces and the beautiful garden with fruit trees and sculptures. Open every day, from 8 am to 6 pm, free of charge. The address is "Largo Senador Raul Cardoso, 207 - Vila Clementino - São Paulo, SP".
>> enjoy the panoramic view at the top of MAC-USP
right after the tour you can visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, with its incredible collection of modern and contemporary art, one of the largest in Latin America. The building has eight floors, with at least four floors with exhibitions open to the public. It is possible to visit the top of the building, with a wonderful panoramic view of the park. Open Tuesday to Sunday, from 11am to 9pm, free.
>> watch the light show at the park fountain
every day in the late afternoon it is possible to enjoy the light show and fountains on the lake in Ibirapuera Park. It takes place on the side of the lake that borders Pedro Álvares Cabral Ave, can be watched free of charge from any edge of the lake. It happens daily from 18h.
